
After graduating from Oklahoma State University with an accounting degree and a marketing degree Sean accepted a position with KPMG Peat Marwick. While working at KPMG Mr. Hugo was exposed to several different industries on of which was the oil and gas industry.
Mr. Hugo developed an immediate interest in the oil and gas industry and wanted to gain more experience in the industry Mr. Hugo accepted a position with Devon Energy. While at Devon Mr. Hugo was exposed to many areas of oil and gas accounting and tax along with oil and gas operations. At Devon Mr. Hugo was exposed to several large company acquisitions such as the PennzEnergy and Mitchell Energy acquisitions. During Mr. Hugo's time at Devon he was able to identify and recover over $5 million dollars in severance tax and sales tax refunds.
In 2001 Mr. Hugo wanted to utilize the knowledge he had developed while at Devon and start his own CPA practice Petroleum Accounting Consultants, PLLC (PAC) specializing in the oil and gas industry. Since 2001 Petroleum Accounting Consultants has grown from one employee to eleven employees. Now with over 100 oil and gas clients PAC continues to bring oil and gas operators and investors specialized industry knowledge which the traditional CPA firm can’t deliver. Mr. Hugo concentrates his practice in the areas of severance tax and sales tax refunds as well as income taxes. Mr. Hugo also spends a considerable amount of time overseeing monthly oil and gas revenue distribution and joint interest billings. Mr. Hugo has spoken at World Energy's seminar "The Next El Dorado" in San Diego. The seminar included oil and experts such as Professor Michael J. Economides and Dr. Amiel David amongst others. Mr. Hugo spoke on the tax advantages of investing in oil and gas. Mr. Hugo is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, Oklahoma Society of Certified Public Accountants and the Oklahoma Independent Petroleum Association.
